After years of trading at Irish markets, I realized every small business faces the same struggle: amazing products, but setups that don’t do them justice.
Standout was born to change that. In our Dublin workshop, we design custom branded wooden stands that make your life easier, your setup faster, and your brand look as good as your work deserves.
My story leading to Standout
This is the totally true story of how I accidentally became “the wooden display guy.”
I grew up in a tiny Czech village where the biggest excitement was when the neighbour got a new goat.
Fast forward to 2004 - I landed in Ireland with a backpack, questionable English, and zero plans other than “survive.”
So I worked in hospitality, retail… the usual immigrant starter pack.
Then 2018 arrived, and life threw an emotional meteor at me.
Most people start running or journaling.
I crumbled. Out of desperation, I picked up woodworking because hitting things with a mallet felt cheaper than therapy.
Started with chopping boards. Then furniture.
Next thing I know, 2020 rolls in and I’m knee-deep in craft markets, swearing at gazebos, and stealing heat from neighbouring coffee stalls.
I ended up doing 500+ markets, which is either impressive or a cry for help. Still not sure.
Somewhere along the way, other traders started asking:
“Can you make my sign?”
“Could you build me a stand that doesn’t fall over like mine?”
“Do you accept payment in brownies?” (Yes.)
And that’s how Standout happened - totally unplanned, powered by tea, stubbornness, and a deep hatred of shitty-looking stalls.
Now I build flat-pack, easy-to-assemble wooden signs and displays that make your setup look like a brand… not a garage sale.
They’re trader-proof, wind-resistant(ish), and built by someone who has personally survived every weather type known to humankind.
I’m still figuring out business, still learning, still sanding at 11pm…
But I love this world.
